in 1723, this is Boston's oldest church building. The Old North
Church is most famous for its role in the beginning of the Revolutionary
War. Two warning lanterns hung in the church steeple on April
15, 1775. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem, The Midnight Ride
of Paul Revere, published during the Civil War, made both Revere
and Old North Church internationally known icons of freedom.
Boston’s place in American history alone makes it worth
a visit. To get a good perspective of the city's layout and history,
your students will take a walking tour along the Freedom Trail.
Then, try a memorable trip to the U.S.S. Constitution and relive
a soldier’s version of what it would have been like to sail
aboard the ship.
Boston is more than history though. The shopping is phenomenal
(Prudential Center), and you will also visit Faneuil Hall Marketplace,
which has a history dating back 250 years. Across the river from
Boston is Cambridge, home of the Ivy League Harvard University.
